From the moment we first discovered Morris' Last Resort, it has become our family's sanctuary. We've returned year after year, and each time, it feels less like a vacation and more like coming home. The majestic views of the LaSal Mountains and the stunning red rock cliffs are a constant source of wonder, but the true magic of this place lies in its quiet tranquility and the feeling of complete privacy it offers. The cabins themselves are more than just a place to stay; they're a cozy retreat with all the comforts of home, a place where you can truly relax and just be.

Over the years, our stays here have woven themselves into the fabric of our family story, but one trip in particular stands out. Following my daughter's residential treatment for anorexia nervosa, we were looking for a place where she could reconnect with herself and the world around her, away from the pressures of daily life. Morris' Last Resort was that place. The breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, the sense of peace on the deck, and the simple beauty of nature became powerful tools in her recovery. Here, she could see and appreciate the world in a new way, and with each hike and each quiet moment, she found her strength returning.

This place isn't just a resort; it's a a haven that has helped our family heal and grow. It's a place where we created cherished memories and witnessed a beautiful transformation. Morris' Last Resort will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we'll keep coming back for the serenity, the beauty, and the profound sense of peace it provides. Marlaine Jacks

Nice cabin, but too far from Moab.
We stayed in the Sunset Cabin of Morris' Last Resort while we toured Utah. The cabin itself is comfortable, clean and very quiet. There is a fully equipped kitchen as well as a washer & dryer for your use. The setting is lovely, but it is over 20 minutes away from Moab and situated on the top of a mountain. We arrived at sundown, and after a long drive the last thing any of us wanted to do was go back down the mountain for dinner. If we had realized that the cabin was so far from Moab, we would have brought the food with us on the way up the mountain and we really would have enjoyed the sunset views from the cabin.

Awesome Home Base in Moab
Our 15th anniversary vacation to mountain bike Utah... Awesome! Clean, roomy Southwestern Cabin with bike friendly policy in place. We stayed one week and loved it. Parking right at your door. The wireless internet was down when we arrived but the owners addressed it via traveling two hours(nearest real stores) to get new equipment and it was repaired within a day. Price was great as was our overall impression of the place. Little downer not much is the.. View out your front door is of the next door neighbors huge construction parking lot, but other views are awesome and the place was quiet despite being right on 191. Will stay there again!!! Much better in my opinion than the in town options.

Great Place!
Morris' Last Resort in Moab, Utah is a very special find. It is peaceful and quite since it is 10 miles (30 min. from center of town) out of town up a very winding road in the La Sal mountains. Our cabin, the Pioneer II, was incredible. We stayed 4 nights. Perched on a rugged piece of property with panoramic views. The 1st evening began with 17 Mule Deer & 4 Elk. Nice welcoming party. The Hummingbird feeder on the porch was enjoyable. The log cabin was great! . The place was super clean and well stocked with everything one needed to feel right at home. I can't find anything negative about the place. Will go back for sure. I'm surprised at some of the other negative reviews about the other places they rent in town just off the main road. I'm surprised at some of the other negative reviews about the other places they rent in town just off the main road. They should get their act together because 1 bad review can turn away many other potential guests.

2 different options
The people at Morris's are very nice, and when I had to cancel my room at the last minute, they said they would try to rerent it and if so, give me the credit. They did so, and that was appreciated. We did drive by their properties during our visit, and you need to focus on the fact that they are 2 very different options. The places next to the hiway are convenient to town if that's impt, but not especially scenic and if you are a light sleeper u might hear hiway noise. The places up the road about 7 miles in the mts are beautifully located in a quiet, indeed remote spot near a road that won't get much use--they would be my choice by far, if you don't mind a little drive to town. Nice Surprise
My husband and I stayed at the Sunrise cabin for two nights. As previously stated in other reviews the cabins at this location are by the highway; however the noise from the road did not ditract from our stay. The Sunrise cabin was furnished very nicely and felt like home. The large veranda was a very nice place to sit and watch the mountains. We had two beautiful afternoon storms that we got to watch come over the mountains. This cabin also had a full kitchen, satellite tv, wireless internet and a full bath. The cabin was very clean and the charcoal grill outside was very nice to have.

It is 8 miles outside of Moab, but unlike the other posters we liked the location being out of town. It was just a few minutes drive back in to Moab, but we had our privacy. I liked being away from all the other tourists.

Overall we had a fantastic stay!!

Fantastic mountain cabin
Morris' Last Resort in Moab, Utah was a very special find. We wanted peace and quite. We got that and much, much more. Located ten miles out of town up in the La Sal mountains, we shared the well maintained road with the wandering cows, and the big jack rabbits. Our cabin, the Pioneer II, was incredible. Perched on a rugged piece of property that had panoramic views we were in awe of our surroundings. The log cabin was great! We enjoyed our morning coffee on the porch as well as our evening glass of wine. The place was super clean and well stocked with everything one needed to feel right at home. I can't find anything negative about the place. We will go back for sure.

Cancelled reservation upon arrival
We rented both Pioneer cabins for four nights. When we arrived, neither cabin had running water, as a prior guest had left the toilet running and drained the cistern both cabins use. We were exhausted after driving for two days to arrive and all we wanted was to take showers and make dinner. There were repairmen at the cabins attempting to fix the problem, but it was already after 7 PM and we had no water in sight. In addition, we had brought our pets, after checking to ensure this was allowed. When we arrived, we found a note on the refrigerator saying pets must be crated in the cabins during the day while we were out. This was never mentioned in the multiple conversations I had with the managers about bringing our dogs (nor was it on the brochure or website), and we had…

Not what you think
I took my husband to Moab for his 40th b-day and we satyed at Morris' Last Resort. We stayed from Feb 27th -March 3rd in the sunrise cabin. When we pulled in we could NOT believe it was right on the MAIN freeway!!!!! On the web it looks secluded well it is NOT!!! It is false advertising. All night long you can hear the semi's going by because you are literally a few feet off the highway. The log cabin had a ton of water damaged and was moldy and I am allergic to mold so it was awful. It smells like wet dog because animals are able to going the families but that wasn't that bad and animal lovers will have no problem. We never met the owners and the place has been up for sale for about 2 years. All the complaints that were in the guest book in the cabin have never been addressed.…

We enjoyed the great little Sunrise cabin. It is a perfect retreat after long days hiking with our dogs and enjoying canyon country when the crowds are gone. We even returned to the cabin for dinner “at home” rather than eating out as planned on our last night.

More Background On Morris-Last-Resort.com

Introduction

Morris' Last Resort was a landmark cabin rental destination on the edge of Moab, Utah, celebrated for its home-like amenities, stellar desert and mountain vistas, and its location as a gateway to adventure in southeastern Utah. While the property no longer operates under this name, its legacy lives on in guest stories, local culture, and its successor business. This guide covers its origin, features, policies, guest experiences, and the deep connections it fostered.

Founding, Ownership, and Evolution

Morris’ Last Resort began in the early 2000s as a locally-owned, hospitality-driven collection of cabins along Highway 191, south of Moab. The vision was simple but ambitious: provide an alternative to chain hotels and RV parks, offering travelers privacy, comfort, and an authentic connection to the captivating landscape. The property was owned and managed by a local family until the late 2000s, with daily operations built around personalized attention, adaptability, and pride in the region.

Eventually, Morris’ Last Resort was sold and rebranded as Coyote Cabin Rentals, continuing its service tradition and updating its offerings to suit a new generation of adventure-seekers. Sean and Nancy, the property’s well-known hosts, earned praise for both their hands-on management and their embrace of Moab’s unique character.

Site and Setting

Location:
The resort spanned several parcels, with valley cabins close to the highway for convenient access and mountain units tucked up quiet roads in the La Sal foothills for solitude. Every cabin aimed to maximize views—of dramatic sunrises over red rock cliffs, or sunsets coloring the La Sal peaks in fiery oranges and pinks.

Nearby Attractions:

  • Arches National Park

  • Canyonlands National Park

  • Fisher Towers

  • Colorado River

  • World-class mountain biking trails and 4WD routes

  • Movie locations, petroglyph and pictograph sites

  • Moab's vibrant downtown (minutes away for supplies and eateries)

  • A basecamp for road cycling, hiking, 4WD explorations, and new experiences like jeep tours and camel rides.

  • A retreat for special occasions—anniversaries, birthdays, reunions—with cabins welcoming multiple generations for shared meals and stargazing.

  • Pet lovers raved about the flexibility for canine companions, with fenced decks and local trail access.

Wildlife encounters were common, especially in mountain units: guests frequently reported seeing mule deer, elk, hummingbirds, rabbits, and even wild turkeys on or near the decks.

Guests appreciated:

  • Professional-grade cleanliness and comfort in cabins and beds.

  • The privacy offered by the layout of cabins, many surrounded by open land and spectacular views.

  • Responsive owners who handled minor issues (like internet downtime or appliance fixes) swiftly and personally.

Some reviews noted trade-offs:

  • Valley cabins, while close to the highway and more accessible, could be subject to road noise—trade-off for convenience.

  • Some mountain cabins required a winding, scenic drive but rewarded guests with quiet and dramatic landscape immersion.

  • Occasional infrastructure complaints (water, Wi-Fi, or cabin age) but nearly always resolved positively.

Social and Cultural Significance

Morris' Last Resort became more than lodging—it was part of visitors’ annual traditions and family histories. Many cited restorative benefits: after illness or stressful times, the quiet decks, vibrant colors, and outdoor serenity helped them reconnect and heal.

Its niche in Moab’s tourism economy signaled the shift from mass hospitality to individualized, intimate experiences. Guests treasured the feeling of “coming home” to Morris’—a haven in wild country, host to meaningful personal milestones.

  • Advance deposit required for reservations.

  • Cancellation policy tiered by notice period, offering rebooking-based refunds in some cases.

  • Holidays and major events often had higher rates or longer minimums.

  • Pet policy: up to two pets per cabin, no animals on furniture or left unattended without kennel, additional cleaning fee and responsibility for damages.

  • Commitment to privacy, safety, and cleanliness for every guest.

Detailed Guest Examples

  • A mountain biker relished a week-long stay, stowing gear inside the cabin and riding local trails daily, returning for sunset drinks on the deck.

  • One large family booked the Pioneer and Sunset cabins for a reunion, gathering for meals outside and marveling at wildlife joining breakfast.

  • A couple noted their cabin’s simple exterior masked a surprisingly upscale and cozy interior, with plush bedding and full A/V amenities.

  • Multiple guests praised the hand-written welcome notes, stocked spice racks, and easy access to local operators for guided tours.

Value, Awards, and Recognition

While Morris' Last Resort did not earn formal awards, its successor Coyote Cabin Rentals regularly garners Travelers’ Choice honors and maintains top rankings for service, cleanliness, value, and local character.

Pros, Tradeoffs, and Travel Tips

Pros Tradeoffs
Stunning views and wildlife Highway cabins can have road noise
Privacy and home comfort Some cabins show exterior wear
Pet & bike friendly, responsive service Remote cabins necessitate longer drive
Range of sizes and layouts Limited mainstream recognition
Family, healing, adventure experiences Book early for holidays, high demand units

Tips:

  • Book mountain cabins for quiet and the best scenery; valley cabins for convenience.

  • Call ahead to confirm pet and bike policies for your specific cabin.

  • Bring groceries if staying in remote units; closest stores may be 20+ minutes away.

  • Factor local weather into travel and activity plans; units have heating and cooling, but dramatic conditions are part of the landscape’s charm.

Morris' Last Resort embodied the spirit of Moab—adventurous, restorative, and welcoming. Its legacy is found in countless guest memories, local traditions, and as a blueprint for personalized, meaningful hospitality in one of Utah’s most storied regions.

This profile incorporates original hospitality vision, evolving local culture, rich guest experiences, and the operational details that made Morris’ Last Resort much more than “just a place to stay.” Every aspect showcased the essence of the American Southwest retreat: beauty, comfort, and genuine connection.
